If there's one thing Australia's not short of it's wildlife. The country is famous worldwide for kangaroos, venomous snakes, drop bears and a bunch of other unique animals. Unfortunately we have a lot of small wildlife too. Get out exploring in your 4wd and you're going to find a lot of flies and other insect life getting plastered to the windscreen. That's not too bad; the wipers will shift all but the stickiest. The problem is a lot of them end up getting sucked in through your grille and air intakes, too, and that can make a real mess of your engine compartment. If you're unlucky your radiator can get clogged with squashed bugs, and that's a frequent cause of overheating. If you've ever driven through a swarm of locusts or anything like that you'll know just what a mess it makes.
Of course there are solutions, and at Tough Toys we're always looking for good ones. The best one we've found for the bug ingestion problem is Rollcraft's insect screens. These are available for most of the popular 4wd and Ute models, and they come as a set which fits over your radiator grille and air intakes.
Each screen has a shaped frame containing a tough mesh, which covers the opening and filters out all but the smallest insects before they get into your radiator and start clogging things up. Unlike some of the flimsy screens we've seen these ones are also strong enough to stop most stones and other debris, which can cause serious radiator damage. At the same time the mesh lets air flow through freely, so there's no impact on your cooling system.
Rollcraft screens are really easy to fit; they don't need any drilling or other modifications to your vehicle. They're easy to remove as well, which makes cleaning them a breeze – certainly a lot easier than cleaning your radiator. They're the perfect solution to insects – an economical and simple accessory that can save you a lot of time and money. We think these are a must have item.
