4wd Interiors

4WD Interiors originated in 1980 when founder Gary Plant was working as an air conditioning contractor based in the mining town of Karratha, North Western Australia. Travelling the vast distances of the Pilbara and Kimberley region, Gary found a basic need to set up his FJ40 Landcruiser with a few extra storage compartments. First, was the Dash Shelf to place the odd can of thirst quenching beverage somewhere! Next, was a Top Shelf for installation of a CB radio, then came an overhead Rear Rack made of light gauge reinforced wire mesh to store his sleeping gear, towels and jackets.

1982 - Finding he had niche market in interior accessories when his mates started asking “Could he make shelving for them?”  The first products were made with a glue pot and a brush in the annex of his caravan in Karratha.   After quitting the contracting work he moved to Perth, registered as a business and starting selling his products by word of mouth and through a local 4WD accessories store.
1984 - Gary moved to Melbourne and continued the business working out of the family’s back yard shed where he starting selling direct to customers by mail order throughout Australia.
1986 - Moving the business from Melbourne to Cairns in Far North Queensland.  We originally setup a workshop in one 200sq metre factory unit eventually expanding to five units. The range of accessories grew from Dash Shelves and Top Shelves to include Door Pockets, Floor Consoles, Roof Lockers and Wheel Arch Storage Boxes with False Floors in the back.
1990 - Developed and produced the first ever twin Roller Drawer system.  The drawer system took the 4WD industry by storm and is now one of this company’s largest selling items.
1995 - Relocated to his purpose built 1800sq metre factory on Redden Street, Portsmith, Cairns.
Our award winning Australian designed Roof Consoles and Roller Drawers have become recognized throughout the 4WD industry through our distributor network for both the avid 4WDrivers and tradesman.

The Roller Drawers and Barriers are ADR rated to Australian Safety Standards to give the customers peace of mind and 4WD Wagon drawers come with ADR rated child restraints pre-installed.

4WD Interiors continue to supply market leading 4WD accessories and have stayed on top due to our reputation of high quality, reliable products and service back up. We also have Door Pockets and Top Shelves suitable for the Landcruiser 70 Series vehicles and Half Barriers and Rear, Rack & Dividers designed to fit on our Roller Drawers.
